Ocean City Boardwalk, New Jersey | I-95 Exit Guide

We’re headed full steam into summer, and what’s summer without a day at the beach? And a day at the beach is not complete without a walk down the boardwalk. Experience those simple sights and sounds… the smell of fried dough and french fries, the screams of roller coaster riders, the gift shops, the lemonade stands… not to mention the ocean.

I-95 travelers should feel privileged… 4 of the top 6 ocean boardwalks in the United States are on the East coast, and great summer destinations for I-95 roadtrippers.

TravelChannel.com has named boardwalks in Coney Island (New York), Ocean City (New Jersey), Hollywood Beach (Florida) and Virginia Beach (Virginia) the best in the US.

Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk

If being active at the beach is more your idea of fun than just catching some rays, Coney Island also offers exciting recreation opportunities. With courts for beach volleyball, handball, and basketball as well as playgrounds and amusement rides, the beach and boardwalk can provide hours of entertainment. Hollywood Beach Boardwalk

Nestled between Fort Lauderdale and Miami is Hollywood, a classic Florida beachtown that’s enchanted visitors since the 1920s. Hollywood Beach features a one-of-a-kind oceanfront promenade called the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk that stretches nearly two and a half miles along the Atlantic. This brick-paved thoroughfare is a haven for joggers, bicyclists, roller-bladers and all who’d prefer to take in the action from the comfort of one of the countless eateries and cafés along the way. Virginia Beach Boardwalk

Today’s Boardwalk is 28-feet wide and stretches three miles featuring a separate bike path, making it ideal for strolling, rollerblading and biking. Entertainment is offered nightly during the summer months and four oceanfront stages at 7th, 17th, and 24th and 31st Streets provide live musical acts. Along the boardwalk there’s a variety of quaint outdoor restaurants and vendors offering bike and surrey rentals. Nautical sculptures adorn many of the side streets which lead to Atlantic Avenue. While there, don’t forget to swing by and see King Neptune – a twenty-four foot, twelve-ton bronze statue that stands at the gateway to Neptune Festival Park on 31st Street.
