I-95 Gas Price Update – Thursday, February 2, 2012

Unfortunately, gas prices continue to rise… Prices along I-95 have seen an increase about 5 cents a gallon over the last week. The highest gas prices along I-95 continue to be in Connecticut, in the $3.71 to $3.85 range. The lowest gas prices continue to be in Richmond, Virginia ($3.37), and Walterboro ($3.38), and Manning ($3.37) South Carolina. From Virginia south to Georgia, gas prices are generally in the $3.40 to $3.60 range.

Listed below are the average posted gas prices as of Thursday, February 2, 2012 for unleaded regular gas at selected I-95 exit cities.

The lowest gas prices continue to be in Richmond, Virginia ($3.26), and Walterboro, South Carolina ($3.25). From Virginia south to Georgia, gas prices are generally in the $3.26 to $3.50 range.

I-95 Gas Price Update – Friday, January 6, 2012

Gas prices are on the move… and not in a good way. Prices along I-95 have seen an increase of from 5 to 10 cents a gallon over the last week. The highest gas prices along I-95 continue to be in Connecticut, in the $3.56 to $3.66 range. The lowest gas prices continue to be in Richmond, Virginia ($3.19), Santee ($3.21), and Walterboro ($3.19), South Carolina. A gas tax increase of 3.9 cents in North Carolina also went into effect January 1st.

From Virginia south to Georgia, gas prices are generally in the $3.20 to $3.45 range.

Listed below are the average posted gas prices as of Friday, January 6, 2012 for unleaded regular gas at selected I-95 exit cities.

Winter Family Vacation in the Lake Champlain Region of New York

This Christmas break my family hopped in our Toyota Prius and road-tripped to the Lake Champlain region of the Adirondacks.  Although the ski conditions near our home in Massachusetts were just awful due to the unseasonably warm weather we’ve been experiencing, the conditions were great in the Adirondacks.

To start, we traveled to Plattsburgh by way of Vermont, taking the Grand Isle to Plattsburgh ferry.  It was incredibly easy to take the ferry, which runs every few minutes twenty-four hours a day, and saved us lots of time.  Once we arrived in Plattsburgh, it was just a short drive to the Comfort Inn and Suites, where we were staying for our trip.

The next morning, we bundled up (it was cold – about 12 degrees), and headed out to Ausable Chasm, a popular summer attraction that is now offering winter tours.  Guests can choose from a 30-minute self-guided tour, or a one or two-hour guided tour.  We did both the 30-minute tour and the guided tour, and absolutely loved them.  Our guide was incredibly informative and helpful, and the kids loved walking on the paths right by the cliffs and falls.  When the paths are icy (as they were on our trip), guests are provided with ice cleat to put on their shoes, and if it’s snowy, guests are provided with snowshoes.

The next day, we drove about an hour and a half to Titus Mountain Family Ski Center for a morning of skiing.  The kids were enrolled in ski school, since they’d only skied one time.  Of course, by the end of the lesson, my daughter was whizzing by me on the mountain, as I struggled in my class (I’m very much a beginner).  Titus Mountain seems to be the perfect place for families to visit – it’s small enough to be approachable, but had lots of really great instructors.

We’ll definitely be back to this area – perhaps in the spring or summer so we can see the gorgeous Ausable Chasm at a different time of year!

The highest gas prices along I-95 continue to be in Connecticut, in the $3.51 to $3.61 range. The lowest gas prices are showing up in Richmond, Virginia ($3.12), Santee ($3.09), and Walterboro ($3.10), South Carolina. From Virginia south to Georgia, gas prices are generally in the $3.12 to $3.35 range.

An Impressive Forum For I-95 Travelers

Long before the social media boom and the likes of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, forums were the primary medium for people with a common interest to discuss and exchange information online.

The Internet has spawned literally millions of highly targeted, subject-specific websites that have satisfied the informational needs of nitch audiences. One such website is the “I-95 Exit Information Guide“. The site has been around since the humble beginnings of the Internet and has accumulated a wealth of information about navigating I-95, the most heavily traveled Interstate highway in the country.

One of the most valuable areas on the website is the I-95 Travelers Forum. You simply won’t believe the volume of information you’ll find here. Travelers pass along their opinions on everything from hotels, restaurants and campgrounds to traveling with kids and pets, construction issues, tolls and gas stops.
