Virginia Rest Areas Reopening

New governor fulfilling promise: Four of the rest stops will reopen by Feb. 17. Eight more will be reopened by March 17, and the final seven by April 17. (Anita Kumar) The Virginia Department of Transportation says crews will begin to restore utilities, re-stock traveler information centers, clean the facilities, install vending machines and restore rest area grounds before removing gates and reopening the rest areas. Changes made to truck parking hours and the additional 225 truck parking spaces that were added at the 23 rest areas that weren’t closed will stay in place. The extended truck parking hours will remain at all 42 rest areas. These are the 19 scheduled to reopen: I-81 North Rural Retreat, I-81 South Smyth, I-81 North Radford, I-81 South Troutville, I-81 North Mt. Sidney, I-81 South Mt.
