The Garden of Eden in Lucas, Kansas

You’d never expect to find The Garden of Eden in the heart of middle America, but lo and behold, there’s one in Lucas, Kansas.

In 1905, an elderly gentlemen named Samuel Dinsmoor had a house built out of limestone logs and began to create a garden of concrete sculptures with biblical and political messages intertwined throughout.

A figure named “Labor” looks to be crucified while a doctor, lawyer, banker and preacher sit around him.

An octopus that symbolizes monopolies tries to encircle the globe and another octopus symbolizing corrupt trust is speared by Lady Liberty.

There is even a 40-foot high mausoleum with a glass sided coffin that displays none other than Mr. Dinsmoor himself.

Creative expression is clearly alive and well in the United States of America.
