Pennsylvania: I-95 Ramps at Cottman Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia Closed at Night Next Week

Pennsylvania: I-95 Ramps at Cottman Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia Closed at Night Next Week

Motorists using Interstate 95 at the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange in Philadelphia will find restrictions on two ramps at night next week for bridge and retaining wall construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said.

The I-95 north off-ramp to Cottman Avenue (Route 73) will be closed for retaining wall construction on Sunday, August 30, through Thursday, September 3, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.

Those normally using the northbound off-ramp will be directed to remain on I-95 north and exit at the Academy Road Interchange, turning right on Linden Avenue and right on State Road south back to Cottman Avenue (Route 73).

In addition, the Princeton Avenue on-ramp to I-95 north will be closed for bridge construction on Sunday, August 30, through Thursday, September 3, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.

Motorists normally using the Princeton Avenue northbound on-ramp can access I-95 north from the entrance ramp on Milnor Street, or follow the ramp detour north on State Road to left on Linden Avenue, then right on the ramp to I-95 north at the Academy Road Interchange. The Milnor Street ramp may be reached by turning right on State Road from Princeton Avenue, then left on Longshore Avenue, left on New State Road and right on Milnor Street.

I-95 motorists are advised to allow more time for travel through the work areas and to remain alert for slowing or stopped traffic approaching the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange.

No construction-related lane restrictions will be in place from 6:00 AM Friday, September 4, through 6:00 AM Tuesday, September 8 for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The work is part of the $212 million project to rebuild the interchange and adjoining sections of I-95. PennDOT’s contractor, Walsh Construction Company II, LLC of Canonsburg, Pa., is reconstructing and widening the northbound side of I-95 between Bleigh Avenue (located just north of Cottman Avenue) and Levick Street (located north of Bridge Street) and rebuilding the interchange to improve travel and reduce congestion.
