Notice anything different? For the first time in a long time not one city checked in with gas prices over $4 a gallon! Even the great state of Connecticut, known for the highest gas prices along I-95, have prices under the $4 dollar mark. Check out the gas prices in South Carolina… they’re comfortably in the $3.30/gallon range! Once you get south of the DC area gas prices hovering around the $3.50 a gallon are quite common. Listed below are the average posted gas prices as of Thursday, June 30, 2011 for unleaded regular gas at selected I-95 exit cities.
Check out "The I-95 Exit Guide, iPhone and Android editions". All you’ll need is 99 cents and you’ll have an app that lists exit services for the entire length of I-95 from Canada to Miami, Florida… including these gas price updates! You’ll have to act quick though… that special price is introductory and available for a limited time. It also makes a great gift!

A Shopper’s Paradise in Rosemary Beach
The unspoiled natural beauty of the Rosemary Beach community is what attracts travelers to this quiet vacation spot but there’s more than just rustic charm. Beyond the gorgeous outdoor scenery lies retail treasures that reflect the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of Rosemary Beach.
Stroll down the cobblestone sidewalks and you’ll discover enough unusual shops to fill days of leisurely browsing. My favorite is Pish Posh Patchouli’s a heavenly-scented apothecary boutique with beauty, fragrance and gift products from around the world. The shop swirls with custom mixed perfumes, French beauty faves and accessories like hand-painted bracelets. A few stores away, Hissy Fits Boutique tempts with frilly, girly finds. Snap up everything from color-block sundresses to sand sculptures from this fun shop. Another must-see store is Bombora Sun & Surf, a groovy surfing emporium that supplies fun sunglasses, flip flops and cute beach wear. Tracery displays to-die-for interior design finds and Rosemary Beach Trading Company sells Rosemary Beach logo wear and quirky gifts like seashell pill boxes. After an afternoon of exerting yourself shopping, relax in the European sophistication of Onano Neighborhood Cafe. Grab a courtyard table with breezes from the Gulf of Mexico wafting through and enjoy an evening of lobster ravioli, fresh grouper of linguine with crab. Don’t miss the dessert of salted caramel cake.

Kayaking in Rosemary Beach, FL
The pristine, white sand beaches of Rosemary Beach will hypnotize anyone whose ever gazed at their beauty up close. I was tempted to just luxuriate on the beach, gazing at the turquoise waves but one of the best ways to enjoy the natural beauty is to rent a kayak and glide along the Gulf Coast.
Sea Oats Beach Service supplies kayaks or surf boards right on the beach. Since I’m not the most graceful or balanced person, I passed up the surfboards and selected a kayak for leisurely beach fun. Paddling out to the second sand bar, I watched for dolphins but didn’t spot any. Instead,I floated along the seascape, glimpsing frolicking fish just below the surface. The sun really blazes down on a kayak, I advise wearing lots of sunscreen and a sunhat. After a few hours of kayaking, the best way to cool off is at New Orleans Sno- Balls. Ensconced in the town square right next to Bamboo Bikes, this little shop represents cool literally and figuratively. The ice treats are made the traditional New Orleans style, with a fluffy consistency that absorbs the flavored syrup much better than the brittle, icy variety. It’s a tradition to get more than one flavor at a time, with the most popular of the 20-odd flavors being nectar and wedding cake. I chose a blend of nectar, which tastes like taffy to me and dreamcicle.

Delaware I-95 Toll Lanes Nearly Done
The effort to ease one of the worst bottlenecks in East Coast holiday travel, the I-95 toll plaza at Newark, Del., is wrapping up ahead of schedule. There’s a good chance that drivers getting away from the D.C. area this July Fourth weekend will find the highway-speed E-ZPass lanes open.
The Delaware Department of Transportation is working this week on some technical issues involving the transponder-reading gantries over the new lanes and completing the lane striping.
Project managers “are anticipating short-term closures as they tighten and adjust the calibrations of things,” said Mike Williams, a transportation department spokesman.
New E-ZPass Lanes at I-95 Newark Toll Plaza Operational for the July 4th Holiday Weekend
Newark — The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that the $32.6 million reconstruction of the I-95 Newark Toll Plaza and the conversion to accommodate highway-speed E-ZPass lanes is nearing completion, and will be fully operational for the Fourth of July Holiday weekend. “We do not anticipate any remaining project related activities to impact the toll lanes during the Fourth of July weekend,” Acting Transportation Secretary, Cleon Cauley, Sr., stated. “However, due to completing road surface striping around the toll booth access lanes, there will be some intermittent lane closures prior to the weekend in the southbound direction. Visit Florida’s Eden Gardens State Park
A great excursion just outside of Rosemary Beach, FL is a visit to the lovely Eden Gardens State Park. The centerpiece of the 161-acre park is the historic Wesley House, a renovated 1897 Greek Revival showplace complete with wrap around porch, gardens and an array of Louis XVI furniture that’s credited with being the second largest collection in the country.
Roll up to the entrance and you’ll see an honor box on the side for the fee of $4 per vehicle or $2 for pedestrians or cyclists. Guided tours are offered hourly from Thursday through Monday, 10Am-3PM but it’s easy to navigate the grounds on your own. Start with the house, adorned with white columns and a row of rocking chairs on the wrap around porch. Inside, browse the impressive display of antiques including paintings and well-preserved chairs and chaises. Then stroll through the heritage rose garden, koi pond, butterfly garden and hulking live oaks draped in Spanish moss. This is a popular picnic spot but I preferred to lounge in a rocking chair on the porch, gazing at vibrant azaleas and Tucker Bayou, which encircles the park. For another scenic adventure, I suggest a visit to Wild Olives, Rosemary Beach’s deli, bakery and market that serves al fresco meals. Nibble on a gourmet shrimp and feta pizza on the patio with great views of Rosemary Beach’s cobblestone square.
